I thought I'd follow up my hardest homage to my favourite Electronic artist (Underworld) by trying to tie down what I feel are my top 10 tracks. As a result it's a shorter post but nonetheless hard, and an important one as it further coalesces my feelings on this wonderful genre and the diversity of creativity it brings to the listener.
What I'd like from this post the most is COMMENTS....please!
Tell me who you love, what tracks inspire(d) you and share with others (anonymously if you must) but do allow us all to open our eyes to other artists, as I hope I have in some way for a few of you.
Of course landing on 10 tracks was nigh on impossible as I have tracked across so many artists and sub-genres over the years that if I look at the list again in a week, I will probably want to change one or two.
However - and this is a BIG however - I think the spine of the list would remain even if you ask me again in 20 years as so many of these tracks informed my early learning on Electronic genre music, and it's probably no fluke that all but two of them come from the 'golden era' of Electronic music production: the 1990's.
I am not going to describe, simply list and in no particular order:
1. Saturate - The Chemical Brothers
2. Shapes Of Sleep - The Grid
3. What Time Is Love (LP Mix)? - KLF
4. Dayvan Cowboy - Boards Of Canada
5. Little Fluffy Clouds - The Orb
6. Are We Here? - Orbital
7. Everybody In The Place (Fairground Remix) - The Prodigy
8. Re: Evolution - The Shamen
9. Juanita/Kiteless/To Dream Of Love - Underworld
10. Smokebelch II (Beatless Mix) - The Sabres Of Paradise
Go listen on Spotify/Soundcloud/Apple Music, enjoy and see what you think. Oh, and please comment...
