Consumption, immersion and anticipation

Howdy folks.

Yet again I have been away from the blog for a time and I blame it solely upon the focus I have been giving to listening to new sounds, discovering (and re-discovering) artists in the Electronic genre and waiting patiently for new stuff to drop. I will try and summarize a bit of it here so hopefully you have some recommendations to enjoy.

Widening my search for music has lead me beyond AOTY and Allmusic.com to sites such as Exclaim!, Pitchfork, MusicCritic and NME, albeit the latter of the four seems to be a little more fixated upon Rock music to feel like they devote much of the requisite energy to the Electronic genre. Nevertheless, I am uncovering some gems across ambient, dark ambient, microhouse, house, techno, jungle, drum & bass, bass, experimental and classical/electronic crossover.

Here's some new releases from artists I had never heard of before which I enjoyed and are worth checking out:

1. Stockholm Marathon - Kornél Kovács

2. Om Dans - Central

3. Seven Horses For Seven Kings - Black To Comm

4. A Quiet Farewell, 2016-2018 - Slauson Malone

5. and departt from mono games - LOFT (Bandcamp link below)

6. Ecstatic Computation - Caterina Barbieri

7. PROTO - Holly Herndon

8. Full Circle - J Majik

9. VORTEX - Special Request

10. Turn Off The Lights - Dog Blood (Soundcloud link below)

11. Venq Tolep - Robag Wruhme

...and here's a few from artists I follow already:

1. Anoyo - Tim Hecker

2. Flamagra - Flying Lotus

3. Polymer - Plaid

If you want individual details on the albums I'd check them out, and it's most likely you'll know whether it'll hit the spot for you personally or not within a few minutes of the first track or two. I am fully aware this is lazy on my part and I'd love to invest the time in reviewing these all individually but they're so diverse it's hard to coalesce thoughts on the dark insanity of experimental Black To Comm versus the frenetic return-to-form of the golden era of jungle/drum & bass of J Majik, to the bass and downright danceability of Dog Blood, which I'd edge to be my personal 'new' favourite of the last 3 months.

Hit up Central, Kornél Kovács or Robag Wruhme if you want to be 'in the club'. Slauson Malone is literally uncategorizeable (is that a word? it is now) but is a great listen and it has a flow and mix to it that just works so well, somewhere in the ilk maybe of...no....I am actually not going to do that cos I can't. It is superb though.

Above all, I would dearly love to see some comments on some of these releases and maybe some further recommendations from those of you reading this, if you would like to help me and those reading the blog.

So, please don't be a stranger and post your views below if you would like to.

Until the next one.

Badger x
